MAEC Compatibility Program

For a specific function or functions of a tool, service, or repository — that is a "Capability" — to be recognized as MAEC-Compatible, the Capability Owner must complete all four phases of the MAEC Compatibility Program. The phases must be completed in order, with an earlier phase completed before the next phase begins. Organizations that successfully complete all four phases will have their Capability listed as "MAEC-Compatible" on the forthcoming "Participating Organizations" page on the MAEC Web site.

Phase 1: Declaration to be MAEC Compatible

  1. Review the MAEC Use Cases and the "Requirements and Recommendations for MAEC Compatibility" document posted on the MAEC Web site.
  2. Ensure that the Capability provides (or is planned to provide) one or more of the high-level MAEC-Compatible functionalities as outlined on the MAEC Compatibility overview page.
  3. Email maec@mitre.org and request the "MAEC Compatibility Declaration Form." Please include the following: your organization name; contact information; name of the Capability; and whether the capability is a tool, service, or repository.
  4. Review Authority emails you the declaration form.
  5. Complete the declaration form and return it to maec@mitre.org. Information provided must include your organization name, organization and product page Web site addresses, the specific MAEC functionality of the Capability, and whether or not the status of the specific MAEC functionality of the Capability is "available" or "planned."
  6. After the form is reviewed by the Review Authority (e.g., MITRE), your organization is added to the list of "Organizations Participating" in the MAEC Compatibility section of the MAEC Web site. The list, forthcoming on the MAEC Web site, will include both organizations with MAEC-Compatible Capabilities and those with Declarations to be MAEC-Compatible.

Phase 2: Implementation

  1. Work with the Review Authority to ensure proper integration of MAEC into the Capability.
  2. Complete the integration of MAEC into the Capability.
  3. Provide feedback on your experience to the MAEC Review Authority and MAEC Community to help further the MAEC effort.

Phase 3: Questionnaire

  1. Email maec@mitre.org and request the "MAEC Compatibility Questionnaire Form."
  2. Review Authority emails you the compatibility questionnaire.
  3. Complete the Compatibility Questionnaire Form and email it to maec@mitre.org. This form includes detailed technical information that specifies how your organization has incorporated MAEC into its tool, service, or repository, per the three types of functionalities defined for using the MAEC Language.
  4. After the review of the MAEC Compatibility Questionnaire is complete and the Capability is verified to meet MAEC compatibility criteria, the Review Authority contacts the Capability Owner, and the Capability are listed as "MAEC-Compatible" on the forthcoming "Organizations Participating" page on the MAEC Web site.

Phase 4: Recognition
